Now and the End

The fight was long
The battle even longer
Warriors lost in the month of May
Lives lost in worth and meaning
But in all, a path was shown, a road for all

So, here’s the blade of faith
Grab it and cut me loose
I see you, you see me
There’s no more pretense

Here’s the blade
Take it and leave me be
I see you, you see me
In blood, my price was paid for

Haunted by pain and fear
Without a means, I was left to die
My life has no value around here, I see
It never did, really, especially around these paths

So here’s my receipt
It says my soul’s been paid for
Courage now holds me strong
There’s no more going back
The season of my life has now begun
How good will it go?
Hell, I don’t know
How well the road ahead?
God, I pray smooth

NO CHURCH IN THE WILD (II)

Now you seek my ones while they’re young
Plastering their faces all over, palaces and places
Begging for things that never see the light of day
You call it charity, I call it one big fraud school,
I see you came with food and drinks
Still, you refuse to leave me immortality
That one tool I need to move further
Further into the rising of the sun

By the words of my dead ones
By the blood stains left on young sleeves
I swear to this life that holds me ransom to fight for soul
This life man has decided to use for deception
So I ask truthfully? Heart to heart, eye to eye, soul to soul
Where’s the house, that place meant for gathering?
It’s all gone, burnt down to the ground
Replaced with bellies bellowing for sugar
By the words of my voice, I swear
I refuse to bow down to your empty roar
Only people seasoned with days know the place
The place where the sheep goes to warn the rest about the wickedness of man
I refuse to hold true those beliefs of lies
Lies, you print in books, limiting my people’s mind
Yeah, it’s all true those lies you print, but
The time has come to celebrate our arising
We’re awakened, and we’re never holding back the truth

NO CHURCH IN THE WILD (I)

It’s hard to hold back tears during these times I live in
The pain that holds me at night shows me
The cries of young ones paraded through the news
What’s more important?
Their souls? Or your polls and ratings?
Tell me cube-box man, and as you do, rid the pretense you wear
I did not fly from the land of earth to see another deceit coated with gold
Those souls you parade as your prize
Are they worth the shame you bring on them?
Their lives as movies, their voices lost in the sounds of doom
Moments they exist in, washed – rearranged to fit your screen
Like black on black
White on white, right!
If you show me your own heart
I’ll show you my mine
That one side you refuse to show
One sided: face of death, that’s all you show
But you forget, we all know two-face survived that night
Alive and willing to show all his burns and scars
Though his ways are seen as dirt and mud
Still he shows all the sides we humans wear
Inwards and outwards, full blown

Lift Off (I)

The trumpets are pronouncing a new sound I must dance to
The choirs are all singing smooth, rolling chants
Angels are here, all shinning with eternal glory
Great ones in the middle, dancing, breaking moves
The soul glowing with joy and peace
Super vibes, the planets are arising
All showing the greatness of life
Days and nights are gone
Locked away, for in this place
It’s all about our arrival
Walked and walked, we have
Journeyed across seas and stars, we have
Burning fuels, hoping to find everlasting quiescence
We tried, some failed
Some fell into the redness of greed
Leaving others with bitter taste
So ask me again?
Why I dance the way I do
Ask me why I turn my hips the way I do
Ask me why my smile stays so wide
Ask me again, why souls are out and about
Free, shouting out joy and peace
Yeah, it’s ringing out that eternal bliss
The choir’s singing with their voices shaking the earth
Their chants finding lonely souls down below
The day and night are locked away
For in this place, the cloud beams away remorse

Dreams of Endless Possibilities

The dreamer soaring through the clouds

Searching for the embrace of love

With his wings refreshed, he sets off

Into the sun, heading straight for the heat

All who see him from afar, thinks he goes for destruction

Oh the dreamer and his silly dreams

Flying through the ever blue skies

The flowers up high fills his lungs with precious scents

The fresh breeze by his side has his ears full and alive

Oh the dreamer full of silly dreams

Dreams of bringing back new hope

Dreams of opening up doors unknown

He holds dreams of a tomorrow

A tomorrow where peace is no longer a promise but ever present

Endless possibilities, the dreamer sees

So let him fly jare, for he’ll return with good soulful things

WINTER IN THE DEN

The Pilgrims Voice:
When you enter the lion’s den
He impedes your throat, captures your voice
Like a trance, a thief at night, he quietly steals your soul
He takes the eyes of life mother gave before your flight
He cuts those ties that brings out the light at night
That chain of hope, the bead of faith that he snatches from you
Pilgrims from the motherland, all rushing down here
Don’t you see the devil sitting in his den?
He sits by the gate awaiting all who dare to come

Stolen Connection:
I remember I had this spirit
I remember I had this feeling
Before it was taken away
Now piled amongst the rest
Those charts that continue to raise high
Traded for a number and a chip
Now I know why my brothers here stick to the zigs
Those sweet things that has their mind cool

Sibling Rivalry:
Some of us, back there in the motherland
Say, think, that the buffalo soldiers here have forgotten their roots
Now I know, even after the winter slept with cold
In their throat, it remains, that thread that connects all
They still have, but why the sibling rivalry, you ask
The people without the season of winter
When we come here, we turn our backs on them
Turn our faces sideways, without reaching forth
We claim the better brother, when in fact
The buffalo with its ancient hoofs has walked winter times
The buffalo with its coat thick as ran through the rivers
They our brothers, they our seasoned sisters
They the one’s that left mama’s hut, leaving the dust
They our older brothers met winter, cold, their bones cried
But in their eyes, they hold a better understanding of the ways of the den
For how can I, who flew on planes come and claim the wiser in this den
In this the land, they all built
Silly, it will be, thoughts without process
It would be the same way, if our winter seasoned brothers
Came back home after so many seasons past
Claiming they knew the ways of Lagos better than we that live there
It will not make sense, it will only be jokes to our ears

Falling Stars

Distances attained, now wasted, thrown away into the bin
Two stars both failing to fully converge
It shatters apart; the life-time present,
It runs away from their grasp
So up high, these two go back to their starting points
Two stars, two souls meant to be one
But apart they remain, stretched far across the galaxy
Each alone, with a memory of what it would have been
Memories are the only dreams they have left

Two stars, two souls apart, divided by the night of space
Apart they burn, without love, they are lost
Both burning fast, both hastening the fall that is to come
So with much haste they shine
The fire that burnt must burn to cut ropes that keep these two stars apart
Burn it does, past the days of when these two could only dream
It must burn well until life itself had been replenished,
Then will the fire cease and lovers reunite
And if by chance, on that night, your gaze rests on the sky
Look closely and watch as these two stars both come falling down to earth
Back to life, they crash
Spiraling their souls take form, reuniting
Combusting into love flames, shedding away heavenly skins
If you put ears to the sky during when these two stars fall onto soil
You’ll hear the cries from their souls, born afresh
Two souls brought back into life, two stars shinning bright on earth

Afro Blue (III) (I know, lets go there one more time)

I have come back to you
My back is tired, my legs weak and full with dust
The desert was not kind, sand storms all about
Voices of women dragging me here and there
But a voice so smooth, so subtle, so crisp
Came into my mind and with speed I let them be
Back on feet, I continued my journey
Walk and walk, I did
My heart worked hard as the sun burned skin
My mind weak, fell
My bones deep dry, followed after it

In the sand, I laid waiting for death
But again it came, rich as the night
Blue as the sky, plump as the sea
Illuminating like the carving of your hips
Strikingly divine like the beauty that holds soul
That voice, it comes back, waking me up
With grace and energy, it fills me up
Rich in my strength, I stand, full up
I look back at the journey so far
Then with my flask now somehow filled with water
I move towards that saving muse
Beauty galore when I think of you
My hearts beats a bit more when I remember
The other times of life when we were
Kings and Queens of the land of the big waves
When we lived amongst our people
Without pain or strife
We honored our people with respect
As they did us, reward to all……….so and so

So my mind continues
Drifting on and on
Flowing with the flying sand
My taste is gone and my flask is again dry
But as I ponder about the coming of days
I look up to the waves of sand
There across from where I stand
There in the midst of the dust
There you stand, your blue garment flowing in the storm
Like a dream, I try to awaken from it
But I’m already awoken by your startling presence
There you are, back again for another life time with me
Rich as our love, souls met to be one

Shades of delight, Afro blue
Shades of delight, cool cool hue
Shades of delight, Afro blue
Shades of delight, cool cool hue – Erykah Badu

Afro Blue (II)

Let’s dream on, overlapping our lives with songs of soul
Let’s paint the great waves with our minds
Shading our faces with sweet delight
It’s rich, our love
The love that binds us well
It’s better this way
Our suffering makes the joy louder
Our pain makes the time we spend rewarding
It’s rich, our love
Your eyes binds me ever close
Woman of graced beauty
Woman blessed with seasoned life
So rich, your hair so black and thick
When you braid it, my hands carelessly go through
Through it, it goes, then to your neck it settles
Touching your neck, pricking softly
I can feel it, those hairs that raise up
Full with attention as I slide my hands through them
Ever so rich, that moment we stay in
Ever so enthralling, when our hearts combine
Reconnecting our lives from the times of old
Though we lost each other a season or two
We have again found our missing piece
One and two’s, some say
But it’s just one with you, I tell them
